Original 9Bar

Since 1984 Wholebake has made a range of wholesome snack bars including flapjacks and fruit bars but the Wholebake legend has to be the Original 9Bar. We call it the Original simply because it is the original health bar recipe, created as a backlash to the modern, synthetic, nutritionally poor sweet snacks so widely available at the time. 9Bars founders knew the healthy nutritional benefits of seeds but knew they could sometimes be a bit tiresome and boring to eat.

 

...unique mix of seeds...

9Bar has a distinct flavour created from a unique mix of seeds and enhanced with a carob topping. The basis of all 9Bar’s are Sunflower seeds but 9Bar’s celebrity seed is Hemp. For thousands of years man has made stacks of stuff from Hemp and its nutritional credentials are second to none. It contains all the main 20 amino acids including the 9 essentials, one reason for the name 9Bar. There is one particular disreputable psychedelic mind bending variety of hemp that meant back in the 80’s you couldn’t grow hemp in the UK but undeterred the Wholebakers imported it in even though it raised a few eyebrows at customs!

The Original 9bar is one of a kind with an individually delicious taste, packed with nutritional goodness. More than 57% of an Original 9bar is seeds, with a richly thick carob layer accounting for another 15%. All 9Bars apart from pumpkin are covered in carob. Carob is a member of the legume (bean or pea) family so it is completely dairy free. Carob also contains a range of minerals and vitamins including calcium, potassium, magnesium, zinc, B vitamins and vitamin D. Some people feel carob is a poor chocolate substitute but the cocoa bean on its own is also very bitter it is the add sugar and fat that makes chocolate so appealing. 9Bar naturally contains fatty acids, pure cane sugar and honey which helps create a rich carob flavour.

The Original 9Bar is the daddy of our seed bars. With its crunchy filling and chocolaty coloured coating 9Bar can be a delicious alternative to less nutritious indulgences such as some stodgy puddings, biscuits, cereal bars or cakes. Why fill up with empty calories when you can get a nutritional boost in such a tasty way.
