I"m 37 and have been running for about 17yrs. Having been 'allergic' to sport at school I got to the point, at about 20 yrs old, when I needed to do something about my beer and curry intake! Not wanting to give up such pleasures I decided to get fit instead as a way of attempting to counteract the effects! 2 years later I ran my first marathon and despite saying never again afterwards (doesn't everyone!) I now find myself running marathons as a 'training run' !! About 5 years ago, having dabbled in triathlon along the way completing Ironman Triathlons in Austria and UK, I discovered ultra running. I didn't realise such events existed and couldn't understand why people would want to run further than a marathon but it intrigued me enough to have a go and before long I wanted to do more. For me it's all about the challenge, how far can I push myself.  There is a huge sense of achievement in proving to myself that if I put my mind to something I can achieve it. An event like JOGLE tests not only physical fitness but mental fitness.

It all started for me 22yrs ago, i am now 46 I was never really big on participation sport although I loved watching sports of all kinds when one day I turned on the TV and started watching the London marathon. Until then I lived a pretty unhealthy life style although at the time I didn't think so, I was smoking 30 cigs a days, drinking about 20Pt's a week and eating all the wrong food. I weighed in at 14 stone and decided enough was enough and to sort it out, pack them in and get fit.

Here we are 24yrs later and I have run over 200 marathons from London to New York running a best time of 2hrs 46mins, I have also completed 24 ultra marathons including 6 South African comrades, 2 London to Brighton and most recently Glasgow to Edinburgh.

But now comes my biggest challenge 850 miles in 15 days John O Groats to Lands End. I cant wait, I have meet so many great people along the way and the friends I have made as part of JOGLE have been very inspirational.
Of course its going to be very hard, but that's the challenge, not only physically but mentally as well. I wont be giving up, I have trained hard and have all the support of my wife Jeanette , son Jack 7 and all my friends and family. www.virginmoneygiving.com/davidmilesjogle hoping to raise a few bob for Sport Relief on the way.

I have been running since 2003, doing normal road marathons and trying to complete a couple of Ultras, in England as well as France (La Trans Aq). One of the Ultra's which I did complete was the Thames Path Ultra in 2008, it was 50 miles from Reading to Shepperton, in London. I came last at just under 17 hours, ouch! The Thames Path was flooded in places, and we had to wade through fields up to our waists in freezing cold water, at that point, I have never been so cold and wet during a running race.

These sorts of races are more about the experience than anything else. Since that time I have always wanted to do something bigger and finish in a better condition. I have been training a lot more and doing more miles than before, so hopefully this time complete the jogle race and have many great moments to enjoy and to remember.

I live in Darwen Lancashire on the edge of the West Pennine moors with my wife Samantha & our three children. I started running in 2003 and have completed many marathons & ultras. At the moment I’m running well over 100 miles a week and mountain bike around 40 miles per week off road. I also do some gym work including spin classes every day, Concept 2 rowing, treadmill runs and core stability exercises but my main interest is ultra running.
